On boxing day I had made plans to travel up to Tokyo & catch up with my good friend Akira. Below is a shot of Mt. Fuji I took from the train. I must say it's probably one of the better ones I have taken. It was a beautiful clear day there were no clouds surrounding the peak. Also, I guess my timing was just lucky as I took this first shot before all the factories & power lines came into view.

I arrived at Tokyo station around 4pm & then had a short wait outside while Akira drove in from Saitama to pick me up.

He was perfectly on schedule & we then went & had dinner in Shinjuku.

Check out this picture below. It really cracked me up. For some reason it instantly made me think of Muslim terrorists holding a so called 'infidel' hostage. I'm pretty sure tuna's don't negotiate with terrorists so its pretty safe to say that this fish has long since been devoured.

We then had a bit more of a look around Shinjuku & Kabuki-cho. It was incredibly freezing cold & quite windy at this time, however the atmosphere was still very enjoyable & I relished all the sights, smells & sounds of Tokyo at night.

On our way back to Saitama we stopped off for heater oil. It was about 3am & about 3 degrees but we were still having a good laugh.

The next night Akira's mother took us to dinner.

Here's Akira & I looking like a whole lot more like ass than class.

The next morning I helped make some yaki-mochi. I carefully cut up the cold hard slab of compacted sticky rice.

To create little squares.

Which Akira's mother then fried up with a little touch of soy sauce.

The final result is pretty damn delicious. Of course I ate too much.

Then it came time for me to leave, my journey back had to be postponed temporarily as unfortunately just as we were about to leave we received a call from Akira's girlfriend informing us that she had just crashed her car. Fortunately she was fine.

After they sorted all of that out we were on the road again & I was soon back on the shinkansen & back on my way to good ol' Hamamatsu!
